Mickey Finn's Brewery & Pub
In the early days of Mickey Finn's.
From the old tavern.
"...Pat knew when his time was right to leave corporate life and buy the bar in 1990. I knew when my time was right. And everyone will know. There just comes a time in your life when you say, `I gotta do something different; I don't want to be doing this when I'm 65 years old." - Bill Sugars

Pat Elmquest Libertyville, Illinois: In this television show, we discover two men can change the face of a town. Pat Elmquest and Bill Sugars invested in their local community when no one else would. The old downtown was virtually abandoned -- over 60% vacancy. Today, after bringing some nightlife back, this place has become an award-winning historic business district. They started with the pub, then with a $2 million loan, they expanded the seating area and installed the brewery.

Today they produce over 20 different types of award-winning beer and bring people into their town from all over the region.

You will learn about financing, about partnering, and about the restaurant business. But most of all, this is a story about two men who never abandoned their dreams. Both dropped out of corporate America. What are you waiting for?

Bill Sugars. Bill and Pat cashed out after thirty years. Then, they put it all at risk. Their wives thought they were having a delayed midlife crisis. Dropouts-turned-entrepreneurs, with years of marketing and management experience. Studies show that this combination -- experience, actualizing a deep-seated dream, and risking it all (they could not afford to fail) -- increases the chances for success.

Mickey Finn's Brewery & Pub is a classic small business case study.

Startup Funding Source. Five loans secured by personal assets.

  • ENROLL -- INTERACTIVE, BROADBAND LEARN ONLINE. We opened the doors to SmallBusinessSchool ONLINE quietly in March 2001, and we will forever be refining all the interactive qualities of the site. Though we'll always have "a long way to go;" by May 2001, most everything began working. So, of course, we immediately began redesigning the site to accomodate thousands of simultaneous small business owners.

We then introduced database tools and security (September 2001). And, now . . . here's more. Footnote: We put up our first web site in 1994 and there will always be a huge free part of our web site.
