Trent Harbin, owner of Harbin HealthCorp DistributionHello, I'm Trent Harbin, owner of Harbin HealthCorp Distribution.

Our mission is to provide the best quality healthcare products to the industry and provide them in a cost efficient, timely manner.

During my 15 years in business I have created over 75 jobs.

I think people like working with me because I try to create a pleasant place where all employees know what is expected of them. We are a team and everyone knows that their opinions count.

During a learn period of time when money was hard to get, the banks would not give me a loan. I focused on my business plan, and followed the plan. I was able to get through the cash crunch. I would advise anyone trying to grow a business to know the numbers on your financials and know what actions created those numbers. If you don't like the numbers, you can change the actions that created them.

There are no secrets.

It takes a good idea and hard work to grow your business. To stay motivated, I develop fresh ideas and I relax best at home with my family. My daughter Tasha keeps me thinking. She’s so young, but offers dynamite views of life. Life is what we make of it. I'm Trent Harbin.

This interview was taped at Detroit Public Television to air in conjunction with Small Business School's regular weekly broadcasts. These people have been recommended by the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and the Michigan Small Business Association as people who are "respected by their industry and loved by their community." They are givers and doers. And, they are all trying to heal the heart of a broken city and make it a place where everybody is proud to say, "I live in Detroit!"

In doing this brief profile, each person is then considered for an entire half-hour show of Small Business School.

To develop their transcript, each of these people answered a series of questions (the same questions within the online school). To be part of these one-minute profiles, we believe that you should be a member of the station and at least one of the local business groups that are committed to building a new Detroit.
